Digital music services are coming and going. Samsung will be shutting down Milk, its service, in September 2016. Amazon plans to offer a new digital music service that only works with its Echo device. The upside? It should only cost around $5 per month.
Nielsen reported on radio in 2016. Radio reached 93% of the US with News Talk Information the top format with a 9.6% share of people 6+. Pop Contemporary Hit Radio came in second followed by Adult Contemporary. It's not a surprise that News Talk Information was on top considering 2016 was an election year. Younger audiences 18-34 were not those listeners, however, preferring Pop Contemporary Hit Radio, Country, and Hot Adult Contemporary.
No more analog radio? Norway is shutting down all full power FM radio in 2017 - and is moving to only DAB digital radio. Small and local/community stations can run on FM until 2022. Norway is the first country to cut FM radio broadcasting. The reception from Norwegians hasn't been positive. The change will require many to purchase new radios although 70% of the country does receive DAB signals. Germany stopped their switch after legislative pressure. The UK has indicated that it will consider the switch when 50% of households have DAB radio and 90% of the country can receive the signal.
